Colors are calculated on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
Enter 3 or 6 HEX digits, with or without #. Opaque sRGB only.
Large text means at least 24 CSS px, or at least 18⅔ CSS px when bold.
Candidates use a range of hues at 65% HSL saturation, plus black or white when eligible. This checks text contrast, not overall WCAG AAA conformance.
Colors meeting the selected threshold
Maximum possible contrast: 21.000:1
How to use
Enter the fixed color
Use the color picker or enter a 3- or 6-digit HEX color. Choose whether it is your background or text color.
Choose the text size
Normal text requires 7:1. Large text requires 4.5:1 and must be at least 24 CSS px, or 18⅔ CSS px when bold.
Preview and copy a candidate
Compare the preview cards and copy a candidate's HEX value. Ratios are checked before display rounding, using the actual exported color.
Scope of the result
Supports opaque sRGB HEX colors. Transparency, images, gradients and wide-gamut colors are not evaluated. Candidates are a sampled palette, not all possible colors or a perceptually closest-color guarantee. Meeting text contrast does not establish full WCAG AAA conformance.
Frequently asked questions
- Why are there no candidates?
- Some mid-luminance colors cannot reach 7:1 even with black or white. Keeping such a color fixed makes normal-text AAA contrast impossible. Change the fixed color or use qualifying large text.
- Which WCAG requirement is used?
- WCAG 2.2 SC 1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced): 7:1 for normal text and 4.5:1 for large text. Reference: https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/Understanding/contrast-enhanced.html
- How are candidates selected?
- The tool searches HSL lightness at 65% saturation in 30-degree hue steps starting from the fixed color's hue. Eligible black and white are also included. Every displayed HEX color is checked against the selected threshold.
